Great product for small price October 18, 2008 thisisme543 I just drove 1300 miles across the US with a luggage bag completely packed full of clothing tied to these bars. It was on the roof of a '97 Dodge Stratus. I only had to tighten the rack down once. It wasn't in danger of coming loose; it just shifted slightly. For the ~$20 I paid for it, it worked amazingly well. The only minor problems were a few drops of water during a downpour where the hooks pin the weather stripping down, and that was only on one door, so it wasn't a big problem. I tied to excess strap to the bars, rather than letting it into the car, so the rain wouldn't run along it like it did for some other reviewers. The rubber feet don't stay on very well, but a little super glue will fix that.
Inexpensive alternative to Thule or Yakima October 7, 2008 J. Scott (Cleveland, OH USA) Ever since I sold my pickup, transporting items like long pieces of conduit or lumber or other long items that won't fit in the trunk of my 93 Buick Lesabre has been an arduous task. I had been looking for an alternative to the expensive Thule and Yakima roof rack systems since I rarely have a need for a roof rack. I ran across the Highland 20052 Superfit Bar Carrier at Amazon.com while doing a google search. Being the cheapskate that I am I went to the "popular" auction site and did a search, I ended up buying a complete lightly used Highland 20052 Superfit Bar Carrier for $10.00!!! Reading about the suggestions regarding gluing the rubber feet to the four bases of the rack in some of the other reviews here I took them to work and "supperglued" them on. A bit premature! There is a reason these rubber feet are not glued on at the factory. The rubber feet need to be OFF the 4 bases so that there is easy access through the bottom of the bases to facilatate assembly of the somewhat flimsy and very flexible straps through the various slots in each base. Once the straps are attached to each base then go ahead and glue the rubber feet on since there will be no need to disassemble the straps afterward. Since I made the mistake of gluing the rubber feet on before I had assembled the straps I had to come up quickly with a way to thread the straps through the slots in each base. I ended up using a piece of "scrap" cable tie because it was very thin and stiff enough to help thread the straps through the various slots. At any rate, The rack works well considering the low cost, It is easily attached and removed from the vehicle and I actually store the racks in the trunk since they take up so little room in the large Buick trunk. Amazon.com's price is as low as any other vendor on the web. (other than possibly getting a used set on on an auction site.) So save yourself some aggravation the next time you need to transport some long item(s) with your car and get the Highland 20052 Superfit Bar Carrier.
Great product for a great price! September 22, 2008 Jason M. Green (Everett, WA) I bought this because my girlfriend and I had to move 1200miles and all we had was my Subaru WRX to move in! The bars fit very nicely and secured very well! Very nice product for the price!
Looks good so far! August 28, 2008 Kristen (Washington) I am going to be driving from San Diego, CA to Seattle, WA in about a week and have purchased both this Superfit Bar Carrier and Highland 10391 Kar Pak Waterproof Soft-Sided Car Top Carrier - 15 Cubic Feet for this trip to use on my '99 Toyota Corolla. This is my first purchase of a roof rack. Since I now have both items I decided to test it out, and try to put it on my car today just to make sure there weren't any problems. The directions to put the bar together was a little complex, but I found that if I followed the pictures instead of the written instructions I had no problems. After putting it on my car I found that with the Kar Pak I purchased that the bars had to be fairly far apart. I don't think this will be a problem, but they are now located pretty much as far forward and as far back as they can go. The bars seem very sturdy, I am just a little worried about the gutter hooks that are keeping the bars in place (and from flying off my car!) Maybe I am just a nervous first time user though. Update: Made it safely all the way to Seattle! My boyfriend was worried that we might have to tighten the bars to my car on the way up, but we didn't have to at all. They stayed perfectly on. I did do what some people recommended - I superglued the rubber pads to the pieces. Was frustrated that they fell off just when I would be carrying them down to the car! Also, safety pins are a must. Used them to hold together loose straps (there were a lot of them after putting the kar pak on too!) Overall, I love this and I will be using it again as soon as I need to. Would change to 5 stars but for some reason it won't let me edit that.
Great product at a low price. August 1, 2008 S. Abdelli (minneapolis, mn United States) A great product at a low price. Easy and quick to setup for my windsurf on my Ford Escort.
