Amazon.com It's obviously a slam dunk for Los Angeles Lakers and basketball fans. But anyone who loves sports will find drama and inspiration in this thrilling video souvenir of the 2001 NBA championship, in which the Lakers learned that "being champion demands more of a team than winning a championship." When the Lakers were crowned champions in 2000, they had the look and the swagger of a dynasty in the making. But in the 2000-2001 season, the team's delicate chemistry was shattered by growing tensions between their two marquee players, Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant. They had the same goal--a repeat championship--but opposite visions on how to achieve it. Bryant "wanted to come out and annihilate everybody," coach Phil Jackson observes. In his quest to become known as the league's best player, Bryant tried to win games by himself. In one game, he scored 51 points, but the team lost. Meanwhile, O'Neal saw himself as the team's "big dog," telling reporters, "If the big dog ain't me, the house won't get guarded." The Lakers' championship saga became "the league's leading soap opera" until the disjointed team "rediscovered their purpose." Their championship bluster returned with a vengeance as they went undefeated in the playoffs against the Portland Trailblazers, Sacramento Kings, and San Antonio Spurs. The last 30 minutes of this hourlong video chronicles the exciting championship series against Alan Iverson and the underdog Philadelphia 76ers. With the best record in the history of the NBA playoffs, the Lakers took another step toward fulfilling their promise of a dynasty. This video goes beyond game highlights to include candid interviews as well as footage of the Lakers' victory celebrations. Stay tuned for a music video of Sugar Ray's "When It's Over." --Donald Liebenson

The Great! June 23, 2008 Michael C. Stafford Jr. (California, CA USA) Takes me back to the times when The Lakers could not be stopped at all as they steamed rolled thru the Post season for the best record in post season history!
Disappointed Laker fan.... July 19, 2002 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
Being a lifelong Laker fan, I was excited to view this release. However, after viewing it, I was disappointed. First of all, the highlights are not adequate. This video is only an hour, with the last 4 minutes being a video by the band Sugar Ray. What??? The last half of the video is highlights of the Finals, which I think was quite a bit of coverage for just 5 games. Not only that, but at least half of the highlights were of the Sixers, not the Lakers. Other than game one, the story line of each game goes like this - a highlight of Shaq dunking, one of Kobe scoring, and a "Oh, by the way, the Lakers are up by 20". Then the next 5 minutes show Larry Brown telling his players not to give up, play with heart and highlights of Iverson!! Then the scoreboard shows Lakers by 5 or 7 with a minute to go! What kind of coverage is that? This video focuses more on the Sixer comeback runs than the highlights of the Lakers building big leads in the first place! That leaves me to wonder if the producers actually knews who won this series?? And what about hightlights of the Spur-Laker series? I expected to see much, much more highlights of this series, especially games 3 and 4 where LA won by huge margins. This was addressed in the video something like "the Lakers ended up winning game 3 by 20+ points and game 4 by 30+ points". There were hardly any highlights of these games, which I consider the high-point of this great playoff run by the Lakers! Also, the first ten to fifteen minutes of this video focuses on the riff that developed between Kobe and Shaq towards the beginning of the season. Great story line, but old news. This subject could have been covered in two minutes, with more time alloted to other playoff hightlights. Last, why isn't this release available in DVD? A DVD release would allow more highlights, plus bonus footage. USA Home Entertainment did a lousy job on this release, in my opinion. Lakers rule again and again and again!
YES June 26, 2002 Richard D. Cappetto (Moodus, CT United States) A Great Video synopsis of another GREAT season and championship for The LAKERS. Nicely done, brings you back to the excitement of the season and Championship. A Must have for all LAKERS Fans.
The UNSTOPPABLE Lakers! May 7, 2002 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Los Angeles Lakers are, by far, the best franchise in the NBA. It's a shame how so many people dog them because they have a team full of stars: Shaq, Kobe, Derek, Robert, and many more. I don't remember people ragging on the Chicago Bulls when they ran their dynasty. Anyway, this is a great choice for all TRUE Laker fans. If you want to see some fascinating NBA ballin', kick back, relax, and watch the Los Angeles Lakers do what they do best!
