A very nice gadget to have around. The overall performance is very good. It feels heavy with 8 D-type batteries in it but it is bright and has some nice characteristics that make it an excellent value for the money. The only concern is the remote. It does not have the advertised range. Maybe its battery needs replacement...

I have not taken it camping, but it has been very useful during several extended periods of power outages at my house. The remote made it very easy to have it positioned in a high spot to illuminate my bedroom and be able to turn it off and on with ease.

These reviews are supposed to be about how the product works from people who have used it, not an opinion about potential buyers. At first glance, I thought this lantern did not work- it only received one star! FYI, not all lanterns are used by campers. My 87 year-old mother, who worrys about power outages, has a Coleman lantern like this on her table. A remote-control could help her in such a situation. Coleman products are usually excellent, this one should be the same.
