Slam is written by Walter Dean Myers. It is a book about a young black boy whose name is Greg "slam" Harris who has dreams about making it to the NBA (National Basketball Association) whit his childhood friend Ice. After moving to a different school Slam has academic problem. Slam makes the basketball team and wins every game except one game. He lives in Harlem in a neighborhood that has a gang and drug problem. Slam is a great book if you like sport books. Slam keeps you on the edge of your seat at the end of mostly all the chapters. Slam won the Coretta Scott King award. I chose to read slam because it's about a child who is very good at a sport but struggles in school, in which some children can relate to. It also teaches kids not to do things like get in gangs do drugs or struggle in school
